Sweeney Todd

I went and saw Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, this week at the Aronoff. It was a live musical not the movie.

I have the utmost respect for those players. Not only do they sing and act but they also provide their own accompaniment. There were 2 cellists, 1 bassist, clarinet player, violinist, trumpet player and percussion. Oft times, they would play while they were singing. It was very impressive.

As for the music, it was a little too strange to me. If you have seen Phantom of the Opera, there is a scene where the opera troupe is singing the Phantom's opera. It is all disonant and minor chords. That is what all the songs in Sweeney Todd are.

The plot starts slow but after half-time it picks and carries through to the end. The only other thing that bothered me was that they blew this REALLY REALLY loud whistle whenever someone was killed and I had to cover my ears.

A Good Day's Work

I had a little fun tonight. A friend of mine from work was in town visiting his girlfriend (he normally works out of the Atlanta office). His girlfriend had played a practical joke on him a couple of weeks ago. Tonight was payback. The setup was that I was to deliver a pizza and somehow he and I were to get into a fight. It worked. The action started when I told them the price of the pizza and it was more than they expected. There were some heated words and then it really started. At one point, he kinda punched me in the chest at which point I tackled him to the ground and then dragged him into the hall threatening more harm. That's when it ended.

His girlfriend was totally taken in though. Once we stopped the "fight" and she realized it was joke, we didn't see her for about 40 minutes. She was pretty upset. This is the normal response after a high stress situation. She finally came out of her bedroom and we had a good laugh.

All in a night's work.
